Obiettivi formativi

Course objectives

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The course aims to introduce students to the basics of neurosurgical assessment for the correct approach to the patient, understand the differential diagnosis and therapeutic options, and evaluate the therapeutic strategy.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student will be able to apply the knowledge in the evaluation of the neurosurgical patient, contributing to the clinical framework, the choice of appropriate diagnostic tests and the definition of indications for surgical or conservative treatment.
MAKING JUDGMENTS
The student will develop the ability to integrate clinical, neuroradiological, and laboratory data, formulating diagnostic hypotheses and evaluating the risks, benefits, and indications of neurosurgical interventions, with particular attention to emergency conditions.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
The student will acquire the ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, and multidisciplinary teams, even in complex contexts, understandably illustrating the indications, risks, and goals of neurosurgical procedures.
LEARNING SKILLS
The student will develop self-learning and continuous updating skills, with a focus on technological innovation in neurosurgery and the principles of evidence-based medicine

Prerequisites

During of his previous training, it is essential that the student has already acquired the basics of surgical semeiotics as well as the theoretical notions of the surgery.

Teaching methods

The course is conducted through lectures and clinical teaching. During the lessons, students will be presented with clinical cases that will be conducted interactively and under the supervision and guidance of the teacher. On these occasions, the various phases of management in clinical practice, from diagnosis to therapy, will be discussed. Attendance at lessons and practical exercises is mandatory and will be recorded via the app. You must have at least 75% attendance to access the profit exam

Assessment methods

The oral examination covers all aspects of the course. The student must be able to discuss the topic and be able to connect and analyze the different topics. To test the acquisition of this ability, the student will be asked to solve simple oriented clinical problems. The final grade is expressed as 30/30, where 18/30 is the minimum score and 30/30 is the maximum score. The final grade is the average of the grades obtained in the exams of the Integrated Course modules

Other information

The course will be carried out at the Neurosurgical Unit, as in the surgeries of the same as in the operating theaters dedicated to neurosurgical sessions

Detailed syllabus

The verification of the achievement of the training topics will be outlined by the tutors during the path of the professional activities themselves, evaluating both the knowledge of the topics covered and the clinical and surgical capacity achieved by the students following the activity itself.
